b.b. gun attack. a south jersey teen hurt while chasing after his stolen bike. 5:00 a.m. on the nose. good morning, welcome to friday and "nbc10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm vai sikahema. cool, but we can't complain. it's been a great run. we'll get right to meteorologist bill henley with the most accurate nbc10 first alert neighborhood weather forecast. bill? you can complain, it just won't make a difference. it will still be cool this morning. 44 degrees in new jersey. there are clouds moving through. no sign of rain. philadelphia at 51 degrees. clouds will break for enough sunshine to warm temperatures into the 60s this afternoon. the clouds at 10:00 and 57 degrees. a little bit of a breeze out of the north at four miles per hour. the winds will stay light. sunshine will be bright this afternoon. the clouds will move through, and then we'll see clearing skies. that will lead to temperatures in the middle 60s for the lehigh valley, for new jersey, 66
degrees. right at 60 as i am expecting a sea breeze to kick in again for the jersey shore. delaware up to 67. warmer weather for the weekend. got a look at easter sunday in a few minutes. first we'll see how the traffic is looking. jessica boyington with the update. watching route 202 in westchester, bill. cameras at route 30. they keep moving the cameras, but either way it's underneath the graphic here on the northbound side. we have a crash partially blocking the northbound side of route 202. you can get off around route 100. it is blocking that in between boot road and route 30. there's construction on the p.a. turnpike westbound side around mid county. westbound times look great from route 1 to valley forge. 22 minutes. and morristown, new jersey, looks good. route 38 around nixon drive. no cars right in the cameras now eastbound and westbound on 38. looks good, nice and dry. somebody moving through eastbound. either way, you see we're looking like a good drive in new
jersey. >> thanks. from dropping a so-called mother of all bombs against isis to a north korea threat, president trump is showing military force as he deals with his growing foreign policy crises. this morning, we're learning more about the exact impact that strike against isis had. >> yeah. this comes as nbc news has exclusively learned of a possible preemptive strike against north korea. nbc10's pamela osborne joins us live in the digital operations center to break it down. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. this is actually the largest nonnuclear weapon the united states military has ever used in combat. according to officials, 36 isis fighters were killed when the u.s. dropped a bomb on a tunnel network used by the islamic state in remote eastern afghanistan. the bomb was dropped at about 7:30 local time thursday. there were no civilian casualties. president trump called the operation "a very, very successful mission." we talked to a local retired navy fighter who was on 80
combat missions in afghanistan. here's a little more insight from him about why he feels the moab bomb was best for this particular target. >> the moab unleashes a huge shockwave. it was uniquely suited for this mission in a remote area where there's tunnels to really just put a shockwave through the tunnels and cave them in if possible to. it wouldn't be appropriate to use it in a big city center because you would level the city and cause a lot of civilian casualties. >> across the globe in north korea, the vice foreign minister is warning the u.s. against provoking north korea militarily. he's blaming president trump for escalating tensions in the region through tweets and expanded military exercises in the korean peninsula. in an interview he told the associated press, "we will go to war if they choose." that north korean official adds that so long as military exercises between the u.s. and
south korea continue, they intend to carry forward with their national defense which includes nuclear arms build-up. reporting live, pamela osborne, nbc10 news. >> thank you. meanwhile, the pentagon admitted yesterday that a u.s.-led coalition strike against isis accidentally killed syrian rebel forces fighting against the ruling regime. 18 rebels were killed in the friendly fire attack. the pentagon offered condolences to the victims and their families. next week, the employees held hostage at a prison in smyrna, new castle county, are expected to speak publicly for the first time. we're expected to hear about their plants to file a federal -- their plans to file a federal lawsuit. inmates staged the standoff at the vaughn correctional facility in february. lieutenant steven floyd was killed in the uprising. floyd's widow is expected to join the employees on tuesday when they share their remarks. and take a look at this -- those are parts and tools that can be used to make a semiautomatic rifle.
police in galloway township atlantic county said a 16-year-old had all of them. a 16-year-old, in his possession. police arrested him wednesday but did not find ammunition for the rifle. they say they found bullets for another gun, as well as cocaine. police told us the teen was already on probation for possession of a handgun on school property. now to an update to a story we brought you yesterday morning. new surveillance video shows the moment of impact as a car collided into a home in philadelphia's east oak lane. take a look at the aftermath of the crash. one person inside the home was hurt but should be okay. the driver says her steering wheel locked up causing her to collide with another car on shelton ham avenue. in gloucester county, police are looking for a person who shot a teenager in the head with a b.b. gun after another teen took his bike. this is what the teen looked like after he was shot. it happened wednesday night in gibbstown. another teenager took off with his bike. when he chased after him, someone in a car fired the b.b. gun at his head. the boy's father says it could
have been much worse. >> i'm not angry. i'm -- i'm more happy that he was hit in the eye and didn't lose an eye. bikes are replaceable. eyes aren't. >> the victim's father sharing leads with police that have been posted on his facebook page. investigators are canvassing areas of town for surveillance video. data from a national survey shows the number of babies born addicted to drugs or alcohol in delaware has tripled in the last four years. lawmakers have introduced a bill to ensure those children are healthy and secure when they leave the hospital. the safe care plan requires treatment, support for the family, and followup care. this morning, a pennsylvania official wants to find out what the general assembly is doing with a big surplus of money. the auditor general says there's more than $118 million surplus, but there's more than $3 billion state budget deficit. he says he wants permission to audit the state assembly to see if there's a better way to make use of that money.
>> i don't know how you can say we're going to look at closing a state prison. we're going to look at people with mental disabilities and potentially remove some of their basic health care, and not touch that $118 million-plus. >> under state law, the auditor general needs special clearance to perform such a review. we have this new video in from overnight of a fire at the bellagio hotel and casino in las vegas. fire officials say the rooftop fire forced them to close the boulevard along the vegas strip while they fought the fire. it broke out around 10:45 last night. crews put out the flames less than a half hour later. no one was hurt. also developing overnight, an experimental rocket explodes at the university of idaho. school officials say four people have been injured. the group was testing the rocket in the parking lot when it blew up. the victims were taken to the hospital. there's no danger to the campus. and an elite connecticut boarding school is acknowledging
decades of sexual abuse against former students. a private investigator found at least 12 former teachers were accused of the abuse at choate rosemary hall dating to the 1960s. a report says the school kept the allegations from the public. the famous alumni include ivanka trump. a 9-year-old boy who was shot in san bernardino, his recovery is going well. nolan brandy was shot and wounded monday when his teacher's estranged husband walked into the classroom opening fire, killing his wife and an 8-year-old student. nolan's family is asking for prayers for his recovery and for the families of other victims. 5:08. a nice morning. a cool start. even at the shore. you'll see sunshine at the shore after a few clouds roll through this morning. we're seeing some of the clouds in philadelphia, delaware,

a college in new castle county is being called out on social media for a facebook post that pokes fun at music majors. the college in wilmington posted this ad that says "heading off to college in major in music? good luck with that." college officials say it was a way to promote academics and pep band. people lashed out on facebook with lots of comments. the college posted an apology saying in part, "the message lacked good taste and respect for the fine arts in general, and music in particular. we sincerely regret the offense that this has caused." the college removed the original ad. we want to know what you think. join the conversation on our nbc10 facebook page. people who work for the city of chester want to go back to school, they can get help with tuition. widener university is offering employees a 45% discount on continuing studies tuition and
50% off for online graduate programs. eligible students must submit an employment verification form at the beginning of each semester. and a lawyer for a passenger pulled off a united airlines plane says his client needs reconstructive surgery, and they plan to file a lawsuit. >> here's the video showing david dao being dragged off the plane for refusing to give up his seat. it sparked outrage. dao is out of the hospital. his daughter says he suffered a concussi concussion, broken nose, sinus injuries, and lost teeth in the incident. >> we were horrified and shocked and sickened to learn and see what had happened to him. >> dao's lawyer says they will sue united and the university of chicago that employed the security guards. united has apologized. unight had -- united had a different problem.
